HAIR

Should I wash my hair before coloring it?
No. For ideal color results, we suggest not washing your hair two days prior to your scheduled appointment.

I have color-treated hair that is prone to breakage. How can I prevent both that and color fading at the same time?
If your hair breaks easily it is probably either very thin, or it has been overly bleached and has thus lost its elasticity. Hair coloring will always fade eventually, but it will fade more quickly when hair is processed. To prevent more damage whilst maintaining your color, we suggest washing with Maria Nila color care shampoo and conditioner no more than 3 times per week. Maintain freshness and style in between washes by using Maria Nila dry shampoo or Cleansing Powder, and always use a heat protectant such as Cream Heat Spray by Maria Nila before applying ANY heat to your hair. Add strength and moisture by using a masque at home 1 to 2 times per week. Also scheduling a treatment every 4-6 weeks. Examples of hair strengthening treatments available are Chromaplex or a Vitamin Power shot to improve the overall health of your hair.

How often should I get a haircut?
Depending on the quality of your hair and how fast you would like it to grow, we would recommend a trim every 8-12 weeks. Once you have had your first appointment, our team of professionals will be able to identify the exact perfect timing for you.

My hair is oily at the roots, but dry at the ends and has no volume. The more I style it, the drier the ends get, but the more I condition, the roots get oilier. Ideas?

If you shampoo everyday, your hair is stripped of its natural oils and overcompensates by producing more oil in access. We would suggest shampooing every other day with Maria Nila Volume shampoo and follow up with Maria Nila Volume conditioner on just the middle to the ends of your hair. Enriched with vitamin B5, these specific products are perfect for this problem because they thicken and add volume to fine hair without weighing it down. Dry shampoo or cleansing powder will be your new best friend. Both these products absorb oil while adding dimension and volume to your hair.

I'm trying to grow my hair long, but I get a lot of split ends. How can I get rid of them without losing length?
The best suggestion we would advise is making a reoccurring appointment to dust your ends every 4-6 weeks. This is not a full trim- it is simply to take away any new breakage so it does not affect the latest growth. Using Maria Nila Repair line that is formulated with algae will help your hair regain its natural strength. Applying Maria Nila Argan Oil to your ends nourishes, softens and strengthens the hair giving it the opportunity to grow out healthy.

My brown hair has already started graying. What's the best way to cover the strays?
Demi-permanent hair coloring is an easy way to blend away grays without much commitment, It fades after four to six weeks, so you won't have obvious roots. Trust our team to pick a shade that matches your natural hair color.

We work with Redken shades EQ and they have a great range of different natural shades that wash out gradually. Your stylist will apply the dye over the entire head. These colors will not only cover your grays but also give all of your hair an overall glossy, healthy shine, providing you with a youthful and fresh look.

NAILS

What are Acrylic nails?
Do you like having long nails but can’t seem to grow them without breaking one or two on the way? Then acrylic nails just might be the solution for you! This faux nail method is ideal for those of us who want long nails, but can't maintain their ideal nail length or shape on their own.
However, this does come at a cost. You need to maintain your nails every couple of weeks and, if not applied correctly, it can damage your nails.
To simplify it, acrylic nails are a mixture of acrylic powder mixed with a monomer to create a blob. This blob is then put on the nail and shaped into the desired shape and length. It’s safe to get acrylics as often as you like but make sure to research the nail salon you are planning to visit to ensure they are certified nail technicians.

What is gel polish?
There’s a reason why gel polish has gotten so popular over a short amount of time. It’s practically indestructible, extremely glossy and there’s no waiting half an hour for your nails to dry. It’s a mixture of stronger ingredients, than your regular polishes, that hold on tighter to the nail plate and are strong enough to endure the daily wear and tear without chipping.

Do I need to take a break from acrylic nails or gel polish?
As said before, it is always important to do research on the nail technician of your choice. The way the nails are treated during your appointment is very important for the future quality of your nails. Try not to peel or pry off the gel polish. This can weaken and/or cause damage to the nail plate. It is recommended to take a break every now and then just to check the overall health of the nail plates.

Nail care
Even without acrylic nails or a gel polish it is very important to take care of your nails, cuticles and hands. Especially now, because you’re washing and disinfecting your hands more than usual. A few tips I like to give my clients are; using cuticle oil, hand crème, and protect with a sunscreen.
